this bride wanted a copy of petal shaped cake from martha stewart's webpage. only the colors in reversed. martha's cake was covered with brown fondant and covered with white and light brown dots. originally the bride asked for only brown dots. when i started to pipe all the dots in brown it didn't look right. so i took matters into my own hands and decided to do 2 different colors for depth, just like the martha's cake. this cake really hurt my hand, each dot was piped on. also, petal shaped cakes are hard to mask and coat. i tried my best. another problem was that from the picture i didn't know what was piped on top. i saw the star take form and i left it that way. i thought it was cute and hoped the bride had a cake topper is she didn't like it.

rubik cake
mo's daughter has a knack for solving rubik cubes in the matter of seconds. for her birthday i created a rubik cube for her in cake. it was hard to cover the cake al in fondant and have the sharp edges so i went with covering one side at a time. which worked well for me and kind of made it more authentic. i just need to learn now to get rid of starch marks and air bubbles.
she like the cake though. :)

8.8.08 cake
this cake was for a wedding on 8/8/08, a very lucky date apparently. the bride just wanted an "8" design to go with the date. so after much thought i came up with this idea at the last minute. i think it turned out very well. the flower placement could have been better. it was only my second time adding flowers to a cake. i just wished the roses were more open and not buds. that didn't help. the best man was in charge of getting the flowers and then was upset with my flower placement. oh well.

mo's cake
this cake was made in july 2008 for mo's wedding. so mo is a really close friend and i really wanted to make her cake. i saw this cake in a magazine clipping another bride gave me. when i saw this elisa strauss's cake, it said maureen! she loved it but trying to get her finance to agree took a little arm twisting. so this is my version of elisa's cake. i never learned how to pipe swag on a cake so i went with fondant instead. i was worried i would mess up on the white cake. this in essence was my first fondant cake. i think it turned out well. :)

fiesta cake
so my friend henry was turning 30. his girlfriend gave me a call and told me she wanted a cake with a fiesta theme. so after doing a little research this is what i came up with. my sleeping mexican could be better but he is my first figurine made of rice crispies. i think the cake turned out great.

what wasn't so great is being invited to stay, looking like crap and my ex coming with his wife and kid. lucky for me it was just the ex and he didn't stay long. it was nice to talk to some of the people i haven't seen since the breakup. i am glad everyone liked the cake. the boys had a contest to see how much it would take for someone to eat the entire sleeping mexican. that was funny.

jekyll and hyde cake
a bride wanted a chocolate ganache covered cake with flowers. she sent pictures of fondant flowers and buttercream flowers but wanted them in pink. i ended up sending the bride and groom a tasting cake with both designs on it, fondant on one side and buttercream on the other. they liked the design of the tasting cake that they wanted to keep both sides. so it ended up being a jekyll and hyde cake.
i found out later that the cake had a sad story behind it. it was for a rush wedding because the bride's mother was very sick and the couple wanted to get married before her mother past away. unfortunately, her mother past a week before the wedding. i felt so sad after i heard the story and this is why i will never forget this cake.

fondant side
don't you just love the background, :)

tp cake
the bride wanted this paisley dot print all over the cake. it kinda of made it look like toilet paper...doesn't it? it think i would have looked better if the cake wasn't all in white. the dots took hours to do. my hand hurt like hell after words. i used a paisley cutter to emboss the shape on to the fondant and then went back with the embosser stick to make each dot.
